dj dAz presents: The Good Groove (RE-RECORD)
OK. So I had to re-record this podcast to give it the best possible mix start to finish just to give the music it's proper due, so here it is:
Eighties Ladies – Turned Onto You
Keni Burke – Risin’ To The Top
Dennis Edwards – Don’t Look Any Further
The Gap Band – Outstanding
Loose Ends – Hangin’ On A String
Fatback – I Found Lovin’
Skipworth & Turner – Thinking About Your Love
Teena Marie – I Need Your Lovin’
Alicia Myers – I Want To Thank You
Positive Force – We Got The Funk
Roy Ayers Ubiquity – Running Away
Royal Cash – Radio Activity (Instrumental)
Loose Joints – Is It All Over My Face
Gil Scott-Heron – The Bottle
Joyce Sims – All & AllThis mix takes me back to a time when growing up in the U.K. in the eighties, at the time when I was around 15 years old, we would roll out to this under 18 dance club called “The Hop” in Walton-Upon-Thames. What you hear in this mix was pretty much what they’d play at this club. We’d rock our Kangols and Public Enemy t-shirts and go dancing with the females from around the way. Funnily enough although it was a suburban spot on the outskirts of London, there was nuff ruffneck violence going on outside where somebody would most likely catch a punch to the face if you weren’t known to be from around the town. We got chased out of there quite a few times but I think that’s what made the club so live. Good music with an element of danger. So with that being said: Shout out to my Cobham family who I used to roll with on the bus to “The Hop” every week. Large up! Rest in Love to Teena Marie. Big Up Cognito @ Frolab.com and Asad at Footlong Developments. The photo of me was taken in a session opening up for DJ Spinna/J Rocc's "Flavors" in Los Angeles i December 2010. As always, shout out to the Umoja Hi Fi posse for the inspiration, information.
